2. fraternal twins.
Identical twins develop from one egg which is fertilize by the male sperm which further divide into two. Identical twins do similar things.
Fraternal twins develop from two separate eggs which is fertilized by two separate male sperms. These types of twins are their own unique individual who may contain characteristics from their other siblings.
For those parents who desire or wish to have twins, the following steps may help you
1. Give birth when you are older(Age)
You are required to give birth to your first and second born when you are at a young age, and then at 30-35 years of your age and above try out for your twins, your chances of having a twins is very much higher. The reason is that when a woman enters her peri-menopause, her ovaries naturally start releasing more than one egg every month. But this only applies to fraternal twins. Also her hormone called follicle stimulating hormone ( FSH) rises as a woman when she is gets older from the age of 30 years and above. FSH, or follicle stimulating hormone, is responsible for the development of eggs in the ovaries before they are released.
When there is an increase in the production of FSH, it lowers fertility. But sometimes, the follicles overreact to the higher FSH levels, and two or more eggs are released, resulting in a twin pregnancy.
2. Eat more sweet potatoes(Diet)
Women who conceive twins naturally are known to come from a place or home where there is abundant amount of sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes helps to improve the fertility of women and also improve the ovulation process. This, in turn, increases the chances of getting twins.
3. Weigh more(over weight or obesity)
for you to have a chance higher of given birth to twins, you have to be heavier rather than lighter. Research has it that women with BMI of over 30 have a greater chance of given birth to twins than those with a low BMI. Remember that BMI of over 30 makes one obese, this is not a good idea or better recommendation. But if you are willing to take the risk, take the challenge. Increase in fat in a woman leads to an increase in estrogen level. Increase levels of estrogen can lead to overstimulation of the ovaries. Instead of releasing just one egg at ovulation, the ovaries may release two or more.
4. Feed your husband foods rich in Zinc
Foods which are high in zinc, such as oysters, green leafy vegetables, seeds, and bread, will help with sperm production - thus increasing his likelihood of being able to fertilize more than one egg.
5. Breastfeed for as long as possible
Most women tend to stop breastfeeding as early as six months. Breastfeeding should continue for as long as possible, maybe until when the child is 2-3 years. Women who are producing prolactin and breastfeeding are more likely to conceive with twins.
6.Family History
A family history of identical twins does not guarantee that you will give birth to twins. However, if you have fraternal twins (non-identical) in your family, your chances of given birth to twins increase. If there are fraternal twins on both the mother and father's side, your odds for twins increase much higher.
7.Height
Women who are taller than average are more likely to have twins. One study found that women averaging 164.8 cm in height (about 5' 4.8") were more likely to conceive twins than women averaging 161.8 cm (about 5' 3.7").
