According to Wikipedia, "the Bible appears in the form of an anthology, compiling texts of a variety of forms that are all linked by the belief that they collectively contain the word of God and are divinely inspired."
The Bible itself stated, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." —2 Timothy 3:16 (KJV).
The first five books
of the Bible were written by Moses about 3,500 years ago while the last book was written by the apostle John more than 1,900 years ago. The original Bible contains 66 smaller books which were written by 40 different faithful men of God. It took a period of 1,600 years (starting from 1513 B.C.E to 96 C.E) to complete the Bible.
The Bible is not a scientific textbook, but it is always correct when it mentions scientific matters. Consider the following examples found in the Bible which shows that science and the Bible agree and that the Bible contains scientific facts that was far ahead of its time. Read on:
The Universe Had a Beginning
Ancient myths had it that the universe came into existence not through creation rather, it is a product of an existing chaos. While the ancient Babylonians had it that the gods which gave birth to the universe came from two oceans, others believed that the universe originated from a giant egg. Despite this illusion, the Bible stated some 3,500 years ago that the universe had a beginning. (Read Genesis 1:1) Science has proved the Biblical assertion to be true.
The Earth Is Held in Empty Space by The Invisible Force of Gravity
Ancient myths had it that the earth was flat in shape and was held on its position with the help of a giant animal. In contrast to this false belief, the Bible stated that the earth is held by nothing in empty space. Jobs 26:7 (NWT) says, "He stretches out the northern sky over empty space, Suspending the earth upon nothing." The nothing on which the earth is suspended is the invisible gravitational force that keeps the earth on its position.
Water Cycle
Ancient Greeks believed that Rivers were fed by underground ocean water, and this wrong idea continued into the 18th century. Before then, Jobs 36:27,28 (NWT) had said, "He draws up the drops of water; They condense into rain from his mist; Then the clouds pour it down; They shower down upon mankind." (Read also Ecclesiastes 1:7; Isaiah 55:10; Amos 9:6).
The Universe Is Governed By Rational Natural Laws
Myths have it that the universe is controlled by the whims and caprices of gods or deities. These gods are adjudged to be irrational, merciless and unpredictable as such humans are helpless before their irrational acts. In contrast, the Bible states that the entire universe is directed day-to-day by proven and rational natural laws. Jobs 38:33 (Byington) says, "Do you know the laws of the sky or are you ordaining its supervision of the earth?". (Read also Jeremiah 33:25).
The Shape of The Earth
Ancient myths had it that the earth has a flat shape. At a time when this wrong idea about the earth's shape persisted, the Bible already provides its readers with the correct information when it referred to the earth's shape as a circle, or sphere. In this regard, Isaiah 40:22 states, "He who sits over the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the sky like a gauze and spreads it like a tent to live in."
As you can see from the article, the Bible contains scientific facts which differed greatly from the beliefs of many people living at the time it was written. The timely and accurate knowledge contained in the Bible superseded those of the scholars of that time. Should the Bible not be respected for these?
